Wisconsin WR Eugene Hilton Jr. to enter the transfer portal
Wisconsin loses a promising young receiver to the transfer portal.
The Wisconsin football team took another hit today, losing freshman wide receiver Eugene Hilton Jr. to the transfer portal, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong.
Hilton’s name was one that had come up earlier this offseason as a potential portal loss for the Badgers. The true freshman came in and made a name for himself early for Wisconsin, forcing offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes to give him reps during fall camp.
In his first season, Hilton played in all 12 games for the Badgers and had eight receptions for 91 yards. While those numbers may not pop off the page, you have to take into account how bad the passing offense was for the Badgers. Hilton was fifth on the team in receiving yards.
That lack of offense is likely a contributing factor to Hilton’s exit from the program. It’s the same reason 4-star wide receiver Jayden Petit flipped to Oklahoma from Wisconsin. Receivers don’t want to be a part of a program that can’t pass the ball.
On the season, the Badgers mustered just 1,637 yards and nine touchdowns. Both ranked last in the Big Ten.
Hilton could have been a top contributor for the Wisconsin offense next season, but instead, he’ll be playing elsewhere. He is the 14th Badger to enter the portal, which officially opens on January 2nd.

Pretty hard to excel at receiver when there is no one to get you the ball
