Badgers cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean loses appeal for additional year of eligibility
While it looked like the starting cornerback for the Wisconsin football team would be back in 2025, the NCAA won its appeal, denying Fourqurean another year of eligibility.

Wisconsin Badgers cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean's quest for an additional year of eligibility for the 2025 college football season has unfortunately concluded with a ruling against him. This decision, which came down today, overturns an earlier preliminary injunction that had allowed him to participate in spring practices and had given the Wisconsin program confidence in his return.
Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger was the first to report the court’s decision.
The NCAA has won an appeal in the eligibility case brought by Wisconsin DB Nyzier Fourqurean, who argued that his DII seasons do not count against his DI eligibility. The appeal - a 2-1 decision -overturns an injunction that would have permitted Fourqurean to play this fall.
This is just the latest example showing how inconsistent the NCAA is. They care about fighting against cases of eligibility, but have little to no control over NIL, the transfer portal, or tampering in general.
For a while, it seemed like Fourqurean, who had been practicing with the Badgers and participating in things like the preseason team photoshoot, would be back with the Badgers in 2025. He and Ricardo Hallman have been starting opposite each other each of the past two seasons, creating one of the more solid cornerback duos in the conference.
During interviews this spring, Fickell was asked about Fourqurean’s eligibility.
“He’s playing,” Fickell said before Fourqurean’s hearing in May. “I don’t know why there would be any tough situation.”
When asked about Fourqurean potentially being ruled ineligible, Fickell seemed just as sure.
“No, he’s not going to be. So, I don’t know why it would cause him any limbo.”
Fickell and his staff will now be tasked to find a suitable replacement for Fourqurean.
Players like Omillio Agard and Cairo Skenes are the likely choices. Another option the coaching staff might look into is moving Geimere Latimer, who was brought in to play in the slot corner position, out to a boundary, and then moving safety Austin Brown to replace Latimer in the slot, as he has played there before.
Fall camp, just weeks away, will now be crucial for the Badgers to solidify their secondary and identify the players who will step up to fill this unexpected void.
