Breaking: Badgers Land Massive 3-Star Defensive Lineman David Hill
Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin coaching staff are on an absolute tear in the trenches.
Just shortly after landing 3-star defensive lineman Will Zaccagnino, the Badgers struck again, officially securing a commitment from 3-star DL David Hill out of Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Illinois. Hill becomes the 12th member of Wisconsin’s rapidly expanding 2027 recruiting class.
Hill chose the Badgers over an impressive list of 19 Division I offers, fending off heavy interest from Big Ten rivals like Minnesota, Purdue, and Illinois, as well as programs like Missouri and Cal.
The Profile: A True Space-Eater
Checking in at 6-foot-2 and a staggering 315 pounds, Hill brings SEC-level size to the interior of the Badgers’ defensive line. According to the 247Sports Composite, he is ranked as the No. 90 defensive lineman in the country and a top-30 player in the state of Illinois for the 2027 cycle.
What makes Hill’s profile particularly exciting is his athletic background. He isn’t just a big body; he is a multi-sport athlete who competes in both baseball and wrestling. For defensive tackles, a wrestling background is pure gold—it translates to elite leverage, hand fighting, and core balance, allowing him to anchor against double-teams and manipulate offensive centers.
How He Fits in Madison
In our recent deep dive dissecting the 2027 class, we highlighted the desperate need for 300-plus-pound space-eaters on the interior defensive line. Defensive line coach E.J. Whitlow has been tasked with beefing up the front to clog rushing lanes and keep the linebackers clean in Mike Tressel’s defensive scheme.
Hill is the exact answer to that need. He projects as a prototypical nose tackle who can anchor the center of the defense. Where a guy like Zaccagnino brings length and positional versatility on the edge, Hill brings pure, immovable mass right up the middle.
With Hill now in the fold, the Badgers boast 12 commitments and have successfully begun turning a glaring roster weakness into a sudden strength in the 2027 cycle.
